So far….

So, I always think it’s important to keep people involved in the story behind Defiant so I thought it was time for a catch up.

When I launched the blog I was newly qualified and idealistic. It was a pre-COVID world and I was so excited to get my qualifications signed off and hit the ground running. Then of course, a global pandemic hit us. From a business point of view, I was excited about the opportunities that this presented. I saw many businesses rushing online without a clue and I ready to help!

How naive I was.

Businesses were indeed rushing online but their expectations were completely unrealistic. Gone were KPIs I was used to needing to hit and instead I saw companies requiring that they hire someone who could make them go ‘viral’. While there were no digital marketing degrees and standard marketing degrees barely touched on digital marketing, my hard experience in the field seemed to count for nothing All I saw were ‘graduate jobs where even the relevance of the degree was unimportant. Marketing managers who despised digital were now asking about crash courses and competing with me for jobs!

More and more disheartened with my field, I turned to CPD and undertook further training but still I was finding most digital contracts being outsourced to agencies. In an agency, digital marketers undertake different roles. Some may specialise in SEO, some PCC and others in social media. By comparison I am used to doing all the work myself.

Luckily for Defiant’s future, I had something invaluable. Word of Mouth. When my clients saw fellow business owners of SMEs struggling, they recommended Defiant. I was offered chances to swoop in and prove the worth of a smaller company who wouldn’t overcharge or oversell and was instead focused on helping businesses be the best that they can be. As clients change over time, I will always have a soft spot for the few that took a chance with Defiant. Those who helped me launch my business and allow me the freedom to pursue my own entrepreneurial dreams.

I am blessed to be one of those who is living their dream with Defiant. Now I want to help others reach their dreams too.
