When I started my digital marketing journey the goal was simple, generate more traffic to a Facebook page, This was 5 years ago. Simply posting to Facebook every time I was on shift was enough. Content creation was easy to achieve as I was onsite and free to take pictures to upload, that advertised our products and our space. The page in question had 297 likes. A number that since feels like its etched in my brain. Competitors had 50-60 likes and the age of Social Media Marketing hadn’t yet come to pass. A time when Ads were only for for global brands with huge marketing budgets and existing audiences.
My role I left the company for a while but the boss lured me back with a fully fledged digital marketing qualification I couldn’t refuse. Upon my return, my role exploded. Soon I was creating multiple Facebook pages for different aspects of a growing company. Respective Instagram & Twitter accounts were also for the ventures and needed content. I arranged events, marketed them and attended for content creation as asset photography and I loved how creative I got to be. We moved to to new sites like LinkedIn. I took over management of 3rd party listings. The company’s flagship channel currently has over 2.5k followers now while the competition still remains firmly behind us. People recognised and respected my work. I learned about narrative voices of a brand to set itself apart & distinguish itself from the marketplace.
I moved from social media content creation to marketing materials in the form of flyers and banners. Graphic design more became important as I created branding kits to cut future graphic design time. Of course the graphic design software fired more creativity and as my skills elevated, so did the quality of content. Soon my own CPD involved Pro Bono work where I could test new animated content. I accessed industry stand modes of content scheduling to free up my time and began take on more clients freelance.
I learned how to access the analytics provided by platforms and to assemble coherent annotated reports. These reports can cover everything from your digital presence across multiple platforms alongside how your presence is performing compared to your competitors. This can be used to identify your strengths & weaknesses and come with key recommendations to help you succeed moving forward.
